Obituary of Ret. SFC US Army Walter Edward Ely

Walter Edward Ely, passed away at St Peter's Hospital in Albany NY early Friday morning, April 18, 2014, after a long battle with lung cancer. Walter was born to George A. and Phyllis C. Ely, June 30, 1936, in Bennington, VT. He is survived by his daughter Inge (Tennant) Crause and husband Justin, of Edmonton, Alberta, two grandsons, Ross and wife Sara and Randall Tennant of Prince George, VA., his great granddaughters, Arawyn and Campbell Tennant, siblings, William and Mary of NY, sister-in-law, Roswitha Anderson of Prince George, VA., several nieces and nephews. Walter was predeceased by his daughter Sandra, wife Ursula whom he cherished and loved for 50 years. Walter was a retired US Army Veteran, whose awards included, the Meritorious Service Medal, and Air Medal, and was retired from Stone Container in Hopewell. Graveside services will be held on Friday May 2, 2014 at 11:00 AM, with full military honors, in Appomattox Cemetery with interment to follow. Condolences may register at www.memorialfh.com
