Obituary of Homer Lee Barnes
Homer Lee ("Dick") Barnes left this world on September 15, 2012 to rejoin his beloved Libby. He was born on September 12, 1920 in Spring Grove, VA. He resided most of his adult life in Hopewell and the last 6 years in Chesapeake, VA with his son and only child, Gary Lee Barnes, and his wife, Pam. Dick served in WW II, as a radio signalman aboard the U.S.S. Tumult and served in the Army Reserves. He retired from Hercules in Hopewell. He was an avid ham radio operator and as such had contact with many people all over the world. In later years, he enjoyed genealogy research, tracing his family roots back to the early 1700's. Dick was predeceased by his wife, Elizabeth ("Libby") Crichton Barnes and leaves behind his son, Gary and his wife, Pam. He also is survived by his grandchildren, Creighton J. Barnes (Sandy), Devon L. Ferrell (Mick) of Chesapeake, VA, and April M. Williams of Bakersfield, CA, as well as great grandchildren, Mickey ("Trey") Elton Ferrell, III, Hannah Leann Ferrell, Leah Elizabeth Ferrell, Corbin Lee Barnes, all of Chesapeake, VA, and Asher G. Edwards and Jayden M. Martin of Bakersfield, CA. For all those that knew my father …."When all else fails, read the instructions!"
