Obituary of Mary Carden Sharp

On September 7, 2014, Mary Ann Countiss Carden Sharp was peacefully called home to heaven. She was born to Eugene H. Countiss and Oma D. Countiss on October 30, 1934 in Pound, Va. She was preceeded in death by her parents and former husband Robert C. Carden Jr, son in law Andy Hankins, and a step son Christopher Sharp. She is survived by her spouse, Robert Sharp, one brother Quillie Countiss (Opal) and her children; Diane J. Hankins, Debra Deane (Phillip), Robert Carden III (Pamela), Roger Carden (Meg); step-children, Patrick Sharp (Gerie), Mary Benner (Stephen), Kathleen Sharp, by her grandchildren; Robert Carden IV, William Carden, Coleman Carden, Rachael Deane (Gabe), Phillip Deane, Joseph Hankins, Jack Carden and Clint Carden; great-grandchildren, Raven, Norah and Grant. Mary graduated from Pound High School, and attended college at Radford University and the College of William and Mary. She was employed as a Computer Analyst for the Federal Government. She is best known for her enthusiasm for life, love of art, cooking and gardening. She has many watercolor paintings that exhibit her fine sense of color and attention to detail. She loved the finer things of life and spent many vacations in such places as China, South America and Tahiti with her husband Bob Sharp. The family would like to especially thank the staff of the Gloucester House, Riverside Hospice and also Quillie and Opal Countiss for all their loving and compassionate care during Mary's stay. The family will receive friends and guests on Wednesday September 10th from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Memorial Funeral Home 214 N. 6th Ave. Hopewell, VA 23860, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday September 11th. Burial service will follow at Merchant's Hope Cemetery, Prince George, VA. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to your local chapter of the American Red Cross.
