Obituary of Retired James Jackson

SSgt James Jackson, retired US Army, 86, born in Quitman, Ga., and raised in Jacksonville Florida, but resided in Hopewell passed away Saturday August 3, 2013 at McGuire VA Hospital. James was preceded in death by his parents, William and Ida Mae Jackson, wife; Elfriede Jackson, brother; Salis, sisters; Claire, Cinnet, and Bulah. Mr. Jackson was a retired supervisor of custodial services at John Tyler Community College after 24 years, and received recognition for his dedicated service; prior to John Tyler he served in the US Army for 26 years seeing service in WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. He is survived by eight daughters, Marilyn Jackson, Edith Love (Therman), Inge Ham, Ute Pope (James), Luise Jackson, Vadis Meadows, Jackie Fuller and Tina Taylor (Gregory), seventeen grandchildren; Richard and Bradley Vassar, Norman, Eric and Jerome Love, Kevin Groves, Stephanie Pope and James Pope, Jr., Michelle Reyes, Nina Holmes, Tiffany and Christina Meadows, Jerry Meadows, Jr., Candice Fuller, Nicholas, Tia and Nylan Taylor, thirteen great grandchildren. He was raised by his Uncle Oscar Mitchell of Tallahassee, Florida. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Wednesday August 7, 2013 at the Memorial Funeral Home- Gould Chapel, 214 N. 6th Avenue, Hopewell, VA and where funeral services will be conducted 12:00 noon Thursday August 8, 2013.
