Obituary of Zane Fred Edwards
Zane Fred Edwards, 90, went to his heavenly home May 7, 2014. He died peacefully at home surrounded by his wife and 3 of his 4 living children. Born in McDowell County, NC on July 26, 1923 the ninth child of Etta and Millard Edwards. He was preceded in death by his son, Fred, his granddaughter, Marie; brothers, Troy, Loy, Clarence and Wallace Edwards; also sisters Jessie Clark, Julia Carraway, Anna Curtis and Lennie Barnes.
He was a member of West End Presbyterian Church, where he was an elder, Sunday School Teacher and worker with the youth for many years. He was also a former Scout Master of Troup 913.
He was a machinist with Allied Chemical for 42 years. He served his country in World War II in the Navy Submarine service making 5 runs on the USS Pomfret in the South Pacific.
Zane is survived by his wife, Charlotte, the joy of his life for 67 years; daughters, Linda Digges and husband John of Mathews County, Martha Reynolds Rieder and husband Glenn of Knoxville, TN; sons David Edwards and wife, Debbie of Hopewell, Jonathan Edwards and wife, Terrie, of Chesapeake, and Daughter-in-law Cathy McKaig. Survived also by 11 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild. One brother Rev. James Edwards and his wife, Agnes of Meadowview, VA and countless nieces and nephews also survive him.
Family visitation will be on Sunday afternoon May 11, 2014 at West End Presbyterian Church from 3:00 to 6:00 pm. Funeral services will be held at West End Presbyterian Church on Monday morning, May 12, 2014 at 11:00 am, with lunch to follow burial at the church.
