Obituary of Joseph Alcidees Vivas

Joseph Alcidees Vivas, 93, of Chester passed away Monday, March 19, 2012 in the John Randolph Medical Center. Mr. Vivas was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Mason Vivas, parents, Eliseo A. and Frances Purdie Vivas, three brothers, Eliseo A. Vivas, Jr., Philip M. Vivas and Richard G. Vivas, three sisters, Judith V. Vivas, Mary V. Davanzo and Frances Vivas. Joseph served in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific during WWII aboard the LST 1046, a member of the Dupont Masonic Lodge # 289 since 1947, charter member of Bermuda Hundred United Methodist Church in Enon and retired from Stone Container in 1981 after 43 years of service. He is survived by two sons, Joseph Dwight Vivas (Carolyn) and John M. Vivas, his daughter, JoAnn Vivas Hightower (Robert), six grandchildren, Jared and Joseph Kilbourne, Mason and Brooke Vivas, Brandy P. White and Kristen Schmaeman, five great grandchildren and sister-in-law, Peggy D. Vivas. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Thursday, March 22, 2012 at the Memorial Funeral Home, 214 N. 6th Avenue, Hopewell, VA. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 am Friday, March 23, 2012 at the Bermuda Hundred United Methodist Church with Rev. Jan Prentace officiating. Interment will follow in Bermuda Memorial Park.
