Obituary of Beuford Roy Bennett

Beuford Roy Bennett, 76, of Hopewell entered Heaven's Gates Wednesday, April 26, 2017 at home surrounded by his family. Born and raised in Ronceverte, West Virginia he is preceded in death by his parents, Echols and Madge Holliday Bennett; his sisters, Mila Mitchell, Evidene Morgan, and Arminta Weikle; and brothers, Edwin Bennett and Orlie Bennett. Beuford is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Arlene Burrell Bennett; two children, Angela Bennett Stark (Kenny) and Darrin Bennett (Pam); six grandchildren, Jared Stark, Conor Stark, Samuel Stark, Alyson Bennett Ross (Bryan), Miles Bennett and Zachary Bennett. He also leaves behind two precious great grandchildren, Mya Hope Ross and Luke Bennett Ross. From 1960 to 1967, Beuford was a gun instructor at the Greenbrier Archery and Gun Club and served on the police and Security Force at the Greenbrier Hotel. During that time, he received a diploma from West Virginia on Fire Prevention and Training as well as a second diploma from Marshall University on Police Practice and Procedures. From 1967 to 1971, Beuford was employed at Allied Chemical and in 1971; he went into business for himself as the owner of Bennett Fire Extinguishers Sales and Service until he retired in 1988. He was a member of Woodlawn Baptist Church and a former member of the Hopewell Optimist Club. Beuford enjoyed hunting, reloading ammunition and making his own fishing sinkers, He loved travelling, especially cruises with his wife Arlene and friends as well as taking trips around the country with his wife, brother Orlie and sister-in-law Delores. His family and especially his grandchildren, whom he called Papaw's babies, were the light of his life and he loved having his family around him all the time. Visitation will take place at Memorial Funeral Home, 214 N. 6th Ave in Hopewell on Saturday April 29, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. A ceremony celebrating his life will be on Sunday, April 30, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home followed by a mausoleum entombment at Merchants Hope Memorial Gardens in Prince George.
