Obituary of Melvin J. Purvis

Melvin James Purvis, 89, of Hopewell Went to be with the Lord on Monday, January 30, 2017. He is preceded in death by his parents, Marshall and Margaret Daniel Purvis; his loving wife of 30 years, Jo Ann Purvis; two brothers and three sisters. Melvin is survived by his sister-in-law and caregiver, Lee Ann Purvis, nieces, a nephew, cousins and friends. Melvin was WWII Navy veteran and retired from Hercules. He was also very active in the American Legion and Hopewell VFW. The family will receive friends on Thursday, February 2, 2017 from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Home, 214 N. 6th Ave in Hopewell. His graveside service will reconvene at 2 p.m. in Bermuda Memorial Park, 1901 Bermuda Hundred Rd, Chester, VA 23836. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to a charity of your choice.
