Obituary of Clarence Lee Huggins

Dr. Clarence Lee Huggins, Jr., 90, of Prince George formerly of Cleveland and Port Charlotte, Florida passed away at his residence on Saturday, December 10, 2016. He was the son of the late Lucille Eldridge and Clarence Lee Huggins, Sr. Clarence is predeceased by his first wife, Carolyn King and his son, Clarence Huggins III. He is survived by his wife, DR. Marie Cui Huggins; daughters, Patricia Jean Huggins, Daphne Joyce Huggins; stepson, Robert Cui (Amy); step daughters, Jennifer Cui (Butch Bowman), Clare Cui; grandchildren, Artemis Bowman, Sylvie Bowman, Nathaniel Cui and numerous other family members. Clarence was an Army Veteran of WWII and the Korean War and one of the first African American officers to serve. He was past president of First Bank National Association in Cleveland OH, member of Sigma Pi Psi (the Boule`), Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, past president of Cleveland Academy of Medicine and Chief of Surgery at numerous health care facilities. Clarence was one of the first board certified African American surgeons in the U.S. and was instrumental in bringing Medicare and Medicaid to Ohio, working through the American Medical Association. The family will receive friends from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. Saturday, December 17, 2016 at Memorial Funeral Home & Crematory, 214 N. 6th Ave in Hopewell. His funeral ceremony will follow at 2:00 P.M. in the funeral home. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Crater Community Hospice, 3916 S. Crater Road, Petersburg, Virginia 23805 in memory of Clarence.
