Muriel Joyce Harris

Muriel Joyce Scott Harris, 92, of Hopewell passed away on Sunday, April 3, 2016. Born in Grantham, Lincolnshire, England, she was the daughter of Bernard and Winifred Scott. She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Peter Scott; her husband, Claude "Simp" Harris, Jr. and her oldest son, Ray Scott Harris (Sandra). Muriel is survived by her daughter, Claudia Wilding (Doyle); her son, Wayne Harris (Sherry); her eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Muriel met and married Claude Harris in England during WWII and soon made the United States her new home. She was a former employee of the Hopewell Public School System, and a founding member of the Transatlantic Brides and Parents Association (TBPA). She loved everything British, most especially her TBPA friends. As a teenager, she once worked for the father of former Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher. She was a dearly loved wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. The family will receive friends on Thursday, April 7, 2016, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Home, 214 N. 6th Avenue in the historic city of Hopewell.
