John William Hanks

Hanks, Jr., Mr. John William "Willie" of Hopewell departed this life to rest in eternity on Nov 7th, 2011. He was born March 26, 1914, in South Houston, Texas, but had made his home in Hopewell since 1928 and was a long time member of Woodlawn Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents Vella Endicott and John W. Hanks, Sr., an infant sister and his Step Mother Ruth Hanks. His wife of 68 years, Frances Thomas Hanks. He is survived by his three children, Peggy H. Harrison of Prince George, Alice H. Baggett (Larkin) of Colonial Heights, and Page E. Hanks (Janice) of Richmond, two Grandsons, Joseph E. Hanks of Center Cross, Va., and Captain Evan T. Hanks, USAF. (Rachel) of Warner-Robbins, GA, now stationed in Okinawa, Japan. Also a very special devoted friend Betty Whitley, who spent many hours with him. She put a smile on his face when she entered the room. He was Co-Owner of Hanks & Jackson and Greenbank Excavating and Construction.After his retirement he enjoyed a number of hobbies including gardening and fishing. Visitation will be held at Memorial Funeral Home and Crematorium, 214 N 6th Avenue on Wednesday, November 9th, 2011 From 6 to 8 PM. Funeral Services will be held 11:00AM Thursday November 10th, 2011 at the Funeral Home with interment in Southlawn Memorial Park, Prince George, Va.
