Joe B. Tate

Joe Burke Tate, Sr., 94, of Hopewell went to be with the Lord and his wife on Monday, July 25, 2016. He is preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Sarah Jessee Tate; a son, John Tate and his loving wife of over 60 years, Elizabeth Tate. Joe is survived by his sons, Joe Tate Jr. (Mary) and James (Sheri); grandchildren Julie Thompson, Cory Tate, Joey Tate, Rob Tate; great grandchildren, Jacob Thompson, Carter Tate, Jordan Thompson, Anna Tate and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. Joe is a lifetime resident of Hopewell and was one of the first deacons and founding members of Powers Memorial Baptist Church. He also worked at Hercules for 41 years and a WWII Army veteran. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July 27, 2016 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Home, 214 N. 6th Ave in Hopewell. His funeral ceremony will be on Thursday, July 28 at 11 a.m. in Powers Memorial Baptist Church, 2807 Jackson St in Hopewell. Final rest will be in Bermuda Memorial Park after fellowship gathering.
