Irene Bennett Joyce

Irene Narrell Bennett Joyce 86, of Hopewell, passed away on Thursday, February 27, 2014. Born in 1927 on the Eastern Shore in Cape Charles, VA, she was the daughter of the late Raymond Bennett and Thetis Taylor Bennett Pridgen. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 56 years, Edgar Clinton Joyce, Sr., brother, Merle Varnell Bennett, step-father, Lloyd Pridgen. She is survived by her children, Joanne Carol Joyce Simmons, Shirley Narrell Joyce deWinter, Edgar Clinton Joyce, Jr., Linda Diane Joyce Wardell, Michael Rodney Joyce, 9 grandchildren, 2 step grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, 6 great great grandchildren, two nephews, several dear friends and her cherished dog, Chelsea Grace. Mrs. Joyce donated to various charities such as Wounded Warriors, and Christian Children's Hospital Fund. She was a former member of Calvary Baptist Church, a prayer partner with the Christian Broadcast Network, volunteer for the Red Cross. Irene enjoyed gardening, needlepoint and crocheting items for seniors at John Randolph Medical Center. She was a truly special person who thought of others before herself, she will be missed very much. Family and friends will gather at her home between 2:00 pm and 4:00 pm, Sunday, March 2, 2014.
