Howell Taylor Bear

Howell T. Bear Jr. 84, passed away on Sunday, July 20, 2014. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Patricia D. Bear; parents, Howell T. and Lydia F. Bear; son, Brett D. Bear; grandson, Dion S. Williams; granddaughter, Carleigh A. Buerger; brothers, Don W. Bear, David E. Bear, Vincent L. Bear, Jon B. Bear; sister, Caroline Hess. Howell served his country proudly in the Army and was stationed in Europe during World War II and also served in the Korean War. He retired from Stone Container after 34 years of service, and was a longtime member of the Hopewell Church of Christ. He is survived by his wife, Thelma Bear; sons, Howell T. Bear III and his wife, Tammy, Brion K. Bear and his wife, Kimberly; daughters, Virginia L. Hughes, Glenda B. Williams and husband, Donald; 18 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Louise Anderson, Frances B. Arpaia, Joanne B. Mullins, Andrea B. Buettemeyer; numerous nieces, nephews, and other extended family and friends. The family will receive friends from 7pm to 9pm on Thursday, July, 24 2014 at the Memorial Funeral Home 214 North 6th Avenue, Hopewell VA, 23860. The funeral service will be held 11:00 am Friday, July 25, 2014 at the Hopewell Church of Christ 310 North 3rd Street Hopewell VA, 23860 with interment to follow in Merchants Hope Memorial Garden.
