Edward L. Courtney

Edward L. Courtney, Sr., 89, of Prince George went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 22, 2015. He is preceded in death by his parents, Edward C. and Maggie Lyles Courtney; his brother, Rev. Vernon E. Courtney and his sister, Shirley Woodard. Edward is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Hazel J. Courtney; his sons, Edward Courtney, Jr. (Kelly) and Kenneth Courtney (Denise); daughter, Judith Courtney Haggins (Aaron); 14 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. Edward was a Navy Veteran and a former member of South Hopewell Church of God. He was a machinist for Brown & Williamson Tobacco Co. for over 35 years. The family will receive friends on Friday, July 24, 2015 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Memorial Funeral Home & Crematory in Hopewell. His service will be on Saturday, July 25, 2015 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. Final rest will be in Southlawn Memorial Park. The family would like to send their deepest gratitude to the caring staff of John Randolph Medical Center and Riverview Rehab Center for your caregiving and support as well as their church family and community for their prayers and support. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to South Hopewell Church of God in Edward's memory.
